DIY Parallettes

Image
Parallettes are a great tool to have in your home gym equipment tool box.  They allow you to do things such as dips, L-holds, swing throughs and handstand pushups to name a few. To me, it was surprising to see how much such a simple device can cost.  A quick Google search called up all sorts of parallettes ranging from $50 to $150!  I say, “crazy”!  Let’s make ‘em ourselves and save a chunk of cash.  (Plus, going the DIY route gives you something that’s exactly in the parameters you are looking for. When making mine, I wanted something that would allow me enough room to try some of the gymnastic swing though type moves ending in a L-hold, and I wanted them to hold me high enough to be able to try to do some deep handstand push ups.  If you are more interested in ones that will just be used for deep regular push-ups, for example, maybe you’ll want to make yours a little shorter than what I going to go through now. First thing to know… this is a pretty simple and fu

DIY Slam Ball

Image
A Slam Ball is a great addition to your gym equipment arsenal that gives you a workout one can’t typically get with traditional gym equipment. One of the first things that struck me about these weighted objects is the are not cheap!  I’ve seen 20 lb. slam balls going for as much as $50.  It’s no wonder you can find so many DIY postings for creating your own.  However when researching these DIY products, I discovered that most of them resulted in a weighted ball nothing like the slam balls you can buy in s store.  I too have made the duct tape covered, sand filled basket ball, but to me, those aren’t slam balls, they are medicine balls .  A slam ball needs to have the rubbery texture for grip, and they need to give with the weight and absorb the force of hitting the ground… when slammed they shouldn’t bounce.   They also need to be extremely durable.  The medicine balls (you can see my DIY on those here ) I have made are very tough and strong and can definitely handle being

DIY Slosh Pipe

Image
A slosh pipe is a great, but seldom talked about fitness apparatus.  As far as workout equipment goes, you definitely get a lot of bang for your buck in terms of how much you put into making it, and what you physically get out of it. So what is a Slosh Pipe , and why to we call it that anyway?  A slosh pipe is a long PVC pipe (8-10 feet) that is filled 2/3 to 3/4 full of water.  Since it’s not completely full, that water will “slosh” around, making the pipe unstable, and giving you one heck of a core workout. If you’ve been thinking of making your own slosh pipe, you’re in luck because it’s one of the simplest DIY home gym pieces of equipment to make with the fewest steps.  So in other words, it’s my kind of project. So let’s get started!  First, get yourself a pipe… the longer the better.  I cut mine down to 8 1/2 feet, primarily because of space issues, however if space wasn’t an issue, I would have kept it at it’s original 10 foot length.  You’ll also need to choose

DIY Medicine Ball

This is a quick little "how to" on how to make your very own, custom made DIY Medicine Ball. The video above covers everything.  In this written portion I'll just quickly lay out the steps, costs and any other nugget I didn't have time for in the video.  While you'll get everything you need from this written post, I think the video is great for really taking you through all the steps and painting a picture for you.  Here's a list of materials I used, along with their costs. Volley Ball        -   $8.08 (https://amzn.to/46gi0et) Play Sand        -   $5.00 (50lb bag) Tube Patch Kit   -   $4.33 (https://amzn.to/465ZEgd) Gorilla Tape     -   $7.99 (https://amzn.to/476wWgx) Duck Tape       -   $3.47(https://amzn.to/3svyQbC) That gives us a grand total of $28.87.   And that's really a maximum price you would pay in the event you had none of the materials already.   If you have an old ball, USE IT!  A bag of sand in the back yard or a r
